E-W cascading sparks N-S rate war as capacity proves hard to soak up
In July and August carriers maintained June\'s eastbound capacity levels at 1,167,000 TEU in July, cutting one per cent in September to 1,146,000 TEU through the cancellation of 12 sailings in September against two in August.
Drewry noted that cascading of unwanted Asia-Europe vessels appears to have stopped, as the average vessel size - 6,175 TEU - has remained constant.

Cargo struggles to kick back
About half of the 50 busiest cargo airports in the world saw a decline in freight activity – and most other airports’ cargo volumes barely budged.
Hong Kong International Airport was once again No. 1 on the list of the busiest cargo airports according to Airports Council International. In 2012, it saw a 2.3 percent increase in freight year over year.
Memphis International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport were No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
