Role of Thu Duc ICD system for port system in HCMC

Theoretically, Inland Container Depot (ICD) is a place to undertake such job of Receipt and Dispatch/Delivery of cargo, Stuffing and stripping of containers, Transit operations by rail/road to and from serving ports, Customs clearance, Consolidation of LCL cargo, Temporary storage of cargo and containers, Reworking of containers, and Maintenance and repair of container units. In connection with a container terminal, the main commercial roles of ICD are to act as the hinterland for the terminal and bring the convenience for its customers in term of saving time/cost in arranging their cargo to the terminal. When it turns into full operation pattern, however, the terminal will need the ICD for more operational supports.…(Read more on Vietnam Shipper Issue No. 75)

Copenhagen-Malmo port: One port – Two countries

The construction of the Oresund bridge, which connects Copenhagen (Denmark) and Malmo (Sweden), apparently threatened the activities of Copenhagen Port and Malmo Port which depended a lot on the ferry traffic between two sides of Oresund strait. However, the leaders of two ports have wisely converted the threat into opportunity by merging two ports into Copenhagen-Malmo port. The new bridge has become an important catalyst of the new port. The story of Copenhagen-Malmo port is one of the most interesting stories in the history of the port development in the world. (Read more on Vietnam Shipper Issue No. 75)

Avoiding disruptions from eruptions

Icelandic aviation authorities and the Association of European Airlines held a conference in mid-September to review how the aviation community handled the Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption last April and identify better response protocols for ash clouds.
